ASF in Serbia

16th Aug 2019 / By Rebecca Veale

African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed at pig farms in Serbia.

The disease was detected in four relatively small farms in the areas of Mladenovac and Podunavski – both in the central part of the country.

Following the announcement the Agriculture Ministry in neighbouring country Croatia has called on pig farmers in Serbia to comply with preventative measures. Members of the general public in Croatia are urged to buy pork from registered shops (no information available about what registration entails).

Bosnia and Herzegovina has imposed a ban on the import of pigs and pork from Serbia.
