The National Pig Awards take place in London tonight, with 14 awards to be handed out.

CB listerThey include the Chris Brant Award, won last year by NPA chairman Richard Lister (pictured), with a special award going to the NPA staff team, and also the NPA AIG Member of the Year, nominated by the NPA and voted for by the readers of Pig World's website.

The ceremony, which will be attended by nearly 400 people, takes place at London's Lancaster Hotel tonight.

Other awards to be handed out, include Indoor, Outdoor and Overall Producer of Year, won last year by Bedfordia Farms, alongside Herd Productivity, Contract Finisher, Pedigree Breeder, Stockman, Unit Manager, Producer Retailer and Technical Innovation awards.

The future will be recognised in the Trainee of the Year and Young Pig Farmer of the Year categories, with an award also for the company deemed to be the best Investor in Training.

The event is staged by Pig World and the NPA is an official partner. NPA chief executive Zoe Davies said: "These awards provide the opportunity for people to share their achievements and to be recognised for the stellar work they do, day in, day out – providing an inspiration for those already within the industry and others looking for a new career.

"Putting yourself forward doesn’t come naturally to many, but when we have such impressive talent to shout about, it is wonderful that we now have a platform that allows us to do just that.

"The NPA is proud to support the awards again this year and we would like to congratulate all the finalists, as well as the winners, for showing what can be achieved."

Pig World publisher Simon Lewis said: “We have once again received good numbers of entries across the categories and, as a judge myself, I can confirm that the standard was extremely high – a credit to the industry.

“I have been hugely impressed by the passion, drive, commitment and skill shown by all the entrants. Tonight will be a night to celebrate the best of British!

“Congratulations to all the finalists – and good luck tonight!”
