Brexit, the market and more to be discussed at SW NPA regional meeting tonight

4th Oct 2016 / By Alistair Driver

South West NPA members are reminded that they will have the chance to discuss all the big issues facing the sector, including Brexit and the market outlook, at a regional meeting tonight.

The meeting will take place from 6.30pm until 9.30pm tonight (October 4) at Exeter Racecourse (EX6 7XS).

The NPA team will provide updates on the NPA’s Brexit strategy, the latest on the industry’s response to demands to reduce antibiotic usage, the ongoing problems posed by animal rights activists, planning issues and other topics of relevance to the industry.

There will be a market update from AHDB Pork’s (Stephen Howarth and Vikki Campbell and a presentation on improving herd health from Rob Davies, of the Animal and Plant Health Agency APHA).

NPA South West chairman Andrew Freemantle said Brexit meant the industry had entered a period of great uncertainty.

“But as negotiations play out NPA will be working hard to identify the potential opportunities and threats posed by Brexit and exploit or mitigate them where possible," he said.

“During this meeting we will be talking about our strategy for dealing with Brexit and updating you on other things we have been working on over the summer. AHDB Pork Market Intelligence staff will also give us an outlook on the market, from both the supply and demand side of things.”

This meeting will take place in the evening of Day 1 of the George Vet Group Pig Fair.
