Danes launch new pork welfare labelling scheme

30th May 2017 / By Alistair Driver

A new Government-backed welfare label based on a three-tier labelling scheme is being launched in Denmark at the end of May.

Run by the run by the Danish government, some supermarkets and the Danish Agriculture and Food Council (DAAC), the scheme, Better Animal Welfare aims to raise the welfare standards at Danish farms and provide consumers with greater transparency.

A survey commissioned by the DAAC confirmed that most Danes want to see more transparency in food labelling but revealed that 6% based pork buying decisions on animal welfare.
