Don't miss NPA Eastern regional meeting tonight!
12th Oct 2017 / By Alistair Driver
The second of the four NPA autumn regional meetings takes place in Diss tonight.
The Eastern meeting starts at 6pm with a hot buffet, at Diss RFC, Bellrope Lane, Diss, Norfolk, IP22 5RG.
One of the key themes during this year's autumn regionals is farm safety in light of recent Health and Safety Executive statistics demonstrating agriculture’s poor record in this area. The guest speaker on Thursday will be Robin Simon, who is responsible for health and safety for Wayland Farms.
He will discuss how safety on pig farms can improved, to better protect staff and make pig farming a more attractive career for new entrants.
There will also be a presentation on handling the activity by animal rights extremists.
The NPA will outline the latest on its work to lobby the Government on the pig industry’s key Brexit priorities, highlighting, for example, ways in which the sector could be supported to become more efficient and profitable. There will also be updates on antibiotic reduction targets, changes to Red Tractor guidance on space allowances and environmental permitting.
This will be followed by an update from AHDB Market Intelligence on the market and AHDB’s current promotional campaign for pork.
Simon Guise, NPA East region chairman, said: "As always, the more people that attend these meetings the more everyone will get out of them by way of active discussion, so please do make the effort to come along. Your views are also very important in helping the national Producer Group formulate policy on your behalf."
The other two autumn regionals also take place in October:
South Central: Wednesday, October 18, 6.30pm at Newbury RFC, Monks Lane, Newbury RG14 7RW
North: Monday, October 23, 6.30pm at Sandburn Hall, York YO60 7RG
All meetings start with a hot buffet.
