EU pig price reaches highest level since 2013

5th Jul 2017 / By

EU pig prices have reached their highest level since October 2013.

The EU Reference Price climbed once again in the four weeks ending June 25 to reach €176.97/100kg, (approx £1.55/kg) up €1.43/100kg up on the week ending May 28. While the rate of the increase has slowed, compared to the four weeks ending May 28, the price remains €21.79/100kg higher than the same week in 2016.

AHDB Pork will update the UK EU-spec Standard Pig Price later today. For the week ended June 24, it stood at 162.28p/kg, 0.37p/kg up on the week and 40p above year earlier levels.

It has grown for 17 consecutive weeks, although price rises have slowed over the past two weeks, as the figures suggest weekly slaughterings are starting to rise.
