Ed speaks to Radio Humberside about NPA's Brexit labour fears

3rd Nov 2017 / By Alistair Driver

NPA senior policy advisor Ed Barker has spoken to BBC Radio Humberside about the NPA's concerns over access to EU labour after we leave the EU.

The full interview can be heard here (about 2 hours, 47 mins in).

Ed pointed out that the reality for many pig businesses is that migrant labour from Eastern Europe has been a 'huge benefit over the last 10 years'.

"Quite ofthen you find that people coming over form eastern Europe have the skills in place to work on pig farms, are also very happy to work unsociable hours, and also the fact they are permanent as well," he said.

"There are lot of businesses around that would love to employ locally. However, they have put out a lot of job adverts and do everything they can to try and employ locally, but, in a lot of cases, the applicants come predominantly from Eastern Europe."

The NPA recently published the results of its survey on EU labour, which highlighted major concerns across the sector.
