Good luck to the pig industry's London Marathon runners!

26th Apr 2019 / By Alistair Driver

The NPA will be cheering on the brave runners from the pig industry taking on the London Marathon on Sunday.

Lawsons

South West Producer Group representative Sophie Hope and Rattlerow's joint MD Adrian Lawson and his three daughters, Charlotte, Sophie and India, will be flying the flag for the sector. There may be others - let us know and we will give you a mention.

The Lawsons will be raising money to help sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The idea began two years ago when Patricia, Adrian’s wife, tragically passed away at the age of 58 after battling MS for over 10 years.

The devastation and helplessness of the disease has had a huge impact on the family, and the girls decided they wanted to give something back, challenge themselves and help others who may have experienced the effects of the neurological illness.

Many ideas were talked about including climbing Everest Base Camp, but none seemed to be as challenging as the Marathon. One evening (after quite a lot of wine) they applied and their surprise, they learned in November that they had all been accepted to run on behalf of the MS Society

Training efforts have taken place through wind, rain and even Alpine snow. The family said they know Patricia is cheering them on through the aches and is laughing at Adrian’s majestic running technique!

To follow and support them, like their Facebook and JustGiving page ‘Lawsons Take on Marathon For MS. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/4patricia

Sophie, who farms in Gloucestershire and is a regular runner, has also been in intense training. "I may need support when the wheels fall off!" she said on Twitter this week.

A team from the NFU, lead by NFU president Minette Batters and vice president Stuart Roberts, will also be running. They will be raising funds for Farm Africa. http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/nfumarathon

Good luck to you all from the NPA!
