Government seeking views on extending relaxation of drivers' hours rules

10th Apr 2020 / By Alistair Driver

The Government is seeking views on whether to extend the temporary relaxation of EU and GB drivers’ hours rules for the haulage industry.

Due to the unprecedented pressures on local and national supply chains, the Department for Transport introduced the changes came into force on March 23. They are due to end on April 21.

In addition, in response to stakeholder feedback, a further relaxation was included, allowing drivers to use the ferry/train derogation whilst taking a reduced daily rest of 9 hours.

Further information can be found here

The Department is now considering requests for further relaxations including on the way forward after April 21. It is seeking views on the following:

  • What impact the relaxations have had on your business/industry
  • Whether these relaxations should be extended past April 21.

Defra is seeking feedback on this by 10am on Tuesday, April 14.
