6th Apr 2020 / By Alistair Driver

The NPA is doing all it can to support members during the coronavirus crisis.

We have compiled key guidance for members, which can be found in our new special Coronavirus Section in the Members' Area.

These documents were both updated on April 3.

You can also find our template ‘key workers' letter to show if you are stopped by the police, as well as links to important Government documents and a roundup of the most relevant articles on our website.

Government

We have been in close contact with Government on numerous issues that have arisen, particularly around staffing. This includes participating in regular phone conferences with Defra Secretary George Eustice and Farming Minister Victoria Prentis, raising the points that are important for you.

We are also in regular contact with Government civil servants and agencies, as well as holding dialogue with the shadow farming team, who are able to support our lobbying efforts.

All the key issues can be found in the NPA issues table, which the team is updating frequently.

Supply chain

The NPA is part of various industry groups discussing issues arising on farms – but also in other parts of the supply chain, including processing, retail, feed supply and animal health – to ensure we feed in our concerns and that we can then relay what is going on back to you.

It is always beneficial to adopt a united front in lobbying Government - so far we have had good success as, not only have we been working with other farming organisations to increase our influence, the Government has also recognised the importance of the food sector and all its constituent parts.

We need your feedback!

Thank you to all members, who have informed us about specific issues that have arisen within your businesses. This really helps in illustrating our points to Government and is essential in making the case for support. The Government is extremely receptive at the moment and wants to help - but we need the evidence to help you.

So please, let us know if there is anything that has happened on your farm or allied business that has caused issues, and your key concerns for the next few weeks and months.

NPA situation

The whole team is working incredibly hard to make the industry's voice heard at this time, but we, too, are affected by the situation.
