Noteworthy industry stalwart stands for re-election to Allied Industry Group

21st Nov 2017 / By Digby Scott

The British pig industry’s own minstrel-with-a-melodean has put his name forward for re-election to NPA’s Allied Industry Group.

HC1Hugh Crabtree, of Farmex, is a founder member of AIG and its current chairman. He’s also the musical genius who produced the highly-acclaimed industry single 'Stand by your ham' (albeit working with some fairly dodgy vocalists).

He’s been in the British pig industry all his working life, now 38 years. “I still passionately believe the industry has the potential to lead the world in innovative production management and choice in production systems,” he says in his election address on the voteNPA website.

“To achieve this, the industry needs a strong voice and NPA's unique qualification is to represent all stakeholders to market. I would like to continue my contribution to improving communications in the industry and keep a clear focus on a thriving prime producer community.”

Hugh, an NPA board member, and former vice-chairman, plays a melodeon in Feast of Fiddles, a band of professional musicians he brings together every spring, for a sell-out tour of British theatres.

Every so often, but not frequently enough for their adoring fans, Feast of Fiddles release a new CD and tracks are occasionally to be heard on Radio Two and other national music stations.
