Private Storage Aid and Slaughter Incentive Payment schemes open - Defra guidance

16th Nov 2021 / By Alistair Driver

Defra has published details of the Private Storage Aid and Slaughter Incentive Payment schemes, which open today.

The schemes were introduced as part of the pig industry support package, announced by the Government in October, which is intended to help processors increase throughput and therefore reduce the backlog of pigs on farm.

Private Storage Aid

The application period for the PSA scheme in England opens today, November 16, and closes 12 noon on 2 February 2022. However, if the maximum tonnage available has been used prior to this date, the scheme will close at that point.

Slaughter Incentive Payment schemes

The scheme, designed to encourage processors to put on extra kills, will take place from today, Nov 16 to December 20. It is intended to be in place until more butchers are in place via the temporary visa scheme.

The payment rate for the scheme is set at £3 for every eligible pig. Payment will be made within 28 days of a valid claim being received.
