Red Tractor clarifies new welfare training module requirement

8th Sep 2021 / By Alistair Driver

Red Tractor scheme members will have three months to complete the new welfare training module for pig units from when it is launched.

Under the recently-announced changes to the Red Tractor pigs scheme, which come in from November 1, all people involved in the care of pigs on the unit will need to have completed all available mandatory modules on the training platform.

Some scheme members have been seeking clarity on the requirement, including how to access it.

Georgina McDowell, Red Tractor technical manager (pigs), explained that the module has not been launched yet.

“We were expecting it to be launched by the end of July – however, there have been some delays as more development and testing is needed. We anticipate that the module will be launched in the autumn.

“The key point to stress is that the requirement is for the training to be completed within three months of the module being launched, not by November 1.”

Once it has been launched, the training will be available here: https://ahdbpork.vbms.co.uk/store
