Remembering Tara Palmer Tomkinson and Winnie the Pig

10th Feb 2017 / By Alistair Driver

A tribute has been paid to Tara Palmer Tomkinson, who some might have forgotten played her part in the industry fightback against low prices around the turn of the Century.

TPT 1Hugh Crabtree, one of the leading figures in a vocal pig industry movement of the time, said he was saddened by the news of her death.

He recalls the industry's surprise at how Tara (pictured by Hugh with Winnie in 2000), best known as a socialite and A-list 'It Girl', was put forward by a PR company to accompany Winnie the Pig in protests in Parliament Square.

They needn't have worried. "Tara was on time, actually knowledgeable about matters agricultural, co-operative and just good fun. She certainly brought the press out," he recalled.
