Share your knowledge on tail-biting and loose farrowing

12th Dec 2016 / By Alistair Driver

Farmers are being asked to share their views on two issues of growing importance to the pig industry.

With tail-biting representing a significant challenge within the pig industry, AHDB Pork, the RSPCA (Freedom Food), and the University of Helsinki have collaborated to produce a questionnaire on the subject.

The 18-question survey is being distributed to producers both in the UK and in Finland, where tail docking is banned.

Loose Farrowing Survey

In separate research, the SEGES Pig Research Centre, in Denmark, has prepared a Europe-wide, online survey to investigate farmers’ experience in using temporary confinement in their farrowing pens.

They are asking farmers who use loose farrowing systems to take 5-10 minutes to complete this survey by December 20.
