'The Government isn't listening' - Richard Lister talks staff shortages and pig backlog to Look North

11th Sep 2021 / By Alistair Driver

Former NPA chairman and Yorkshire farmer Richard Lister gave an excellent interview on Look North on the current situation with staff shortages and the pig backlog.

He explained how pigs are backing up on his farm and the stress and anguish this is causing for pig farmers across the country.

He gave a an impassioned plea for the Government to add butchers to the shortage occupation list to enable processors to attract more EU labour. But he said he feared the Government wasn't listening and that the consequences will be farmers going out of business anf the country becoming more reliant on pork imports.
