Updated Pig Health Scheme set to resume

9th Nov 2018 / By Alistair Driver

The Pig Health Scheme, formerly the British Pig Health Scheme, is set to re-commence, following a lengthy review.

The scheme, which feeds back data taken at abattoirs to producers, was suspended a year ago, with the termination of provider Hallmark’s contract, after AHDB found inconsistencies in the data collected.

Following a review and new tenders for different aspects of the scheme, it is set to resume. It is understood that the contracts have been awarded but the formal announcement, including confirmation of when the first assessments will take place, is still awaited.

In the latest issue of Pig World, AHDB has explained how producers will benefit from the revamped scheme. Users can sign up via pig hub using their usual sign-in details.
