NPA at the Pig and Poultry Fair

14th May 2018 / By Alistair Driver

It’s here again. British Pig and Poultry Fair week is upon us and we’re looking forward to a great couple of days at Stoneleigh.

Pig and poultry Fair NPAYou will be able to find the NPA in Hall 1 at Stand 72, which, once again, is shared with Pig World.

Chief executive Zoe Davies said: “NPA staff and representatives from Producer Group will be on hand throughout the two days, so do please pop in, say hello and feel free to have a sit down. We’ll be happy to discuss any issues you might have about your business or the wider pig industry. I’ve got the Jammy Dodgers on order!”

See the designated times NPA staff will be at the stand below.

The NPA will also be issuing new materials at the Fair:

Antibiotic Stewardship: A lot has happened since the NPA published its ground-breaking and influential Antibiotic Stewardship Programme in May 2016. We will provide an update on progress over the last two years, including looking at how the industry should set about meeting new antibiotic targets. NPA chairman Richard Lister and senior policy advisor Georgina Crayford (3-4pm, both days) will also be appearing at Responsible Use of Medicines (RUMA) alliance's stand (stand 290) over the two days as part of its 'drop-in antibiotics clinic'.

Incursion support: We will be launching new materials to help producers protect themselves from being targeted by activists and manage incidents better when they do occur.

Pig Prospects: Last week, the NPA submitted its 53-page response to Defra’s Command Paper consultation on the future of food and farming. We will be sharing our key asks for post-Brexit policy within our Pig Prospects document. Both documents will be available upon request.

Seminar: Senior policy advisor Ed Barker will be speaking at a seminar entitled ‘Pig outlook – preparing for the road ahead’, alongside Tulip’s Andrew Saunders at 11am on both days of the event. The seminar – in the main forum theatre, adjacent to Hall 3 – will discuss the outlook for the pig sector, including the political backdrop as the UK negotiates its exit from the EU.

Nuffield Scholarship: On Wednesday, Georgina (10-11am) and Zoe (2-3pm) will be on the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust stand (stand 4) to discuss their experience as Nuffield Scholars with prospective future Scholars. Applications for the next intake are open until July.
