Diversity in agriculture - view Flavian's AHDB webinar

23rd Aug 2022 / By Alistair Driver

Young NPA (YNPA) vice-chair and Hampshire pig farmer, Flavian Obiero, shared his passion for getting people from a non-traditional background interested in agriculture in an AHDB webinar last week.

Flavian Obiero 2The webinar, part of Beanstalk Global/AHDB's new Talking Leaders Broadcast Series, entitled 'Breaking the Mould' with the Pig Farmer Flavian Obiero', can be watched here.

Flavian grew up in the coastal town of Kilifi, Kenya, and it had never crossed his mind that pig farming, especially in the UK, would become such an important part of his life. But after an accidental weeks’ work experience 'the rest, as they say, is history', AHDB said.

He now has 12 years of expertise in the pig industry and is based on a pig unit near Basingstoke. He is particularly interested in marketing and adding value to pork and is passionate about increasing diversity in British agriculture.

The webinar discussed Flavian’s own experiences and challenges, and delved into why diversity in agriculture is so important.

AHDB's Talking Leaders, a bi-monthly initiative, will see a series of inspirational speakers share their life experiences and deliver impactful stories to the AgriLeader community.
