Industry giant signals intention to stand down in 2018

Mick Sloyan, AHDB Pork strategy director has decided after 40 years to make a career and lifestyle change and step down from his current role with effect from July 2018.

Mick says, “I have had the privilege to work for the Meat & Livestock Commission, BPEX and latterly AHDB during my, thus far, 40 year career. I do not intend to give up work entirely next year and have taken this decision to make people aware of my thinking in order for proper planning and a handover. As part of my role I am lucky enough to be an active participant in several industry organisations and enjoy the support of my AHDB colleagues and many people from the wider industry.  I hope the timeliness of this announcement will give the necessary time to make appointment decisions.”

AHDB CEO Jane King said, “Mick has been and continues to be a leading figure within AHDB having steered a course through sad events such as the BSE crisis and Foot and Mouth, along with triumphs, including, record pork exports to China. Personally,  I am only too aware of the contribution Mick makes and when the time comes, he will be greatly missed.”

NPA Chairman Richard Lister said ‘Mick has been a fantastic servant of the pig industry and it has been a great pleasure to work with him over the years . His knowledge is on a par with the encyclopedia Britannica  with regards to the world of pigs . Mick is highly regarded not just in the UK  but throughout the world in his role with IMS. He has seen the pig industry pass through many difficult times but he has always worked with great influence to create a better future . Mick is one of those people who will genuinely be tough to replace and a hard act to follow’.
