The NPA has welcomed new Shadow Defra Secretary, Croydon North MP Steve Reed, to the role.
Mr Reed, who who moves over from the role of Shadow Justice Secretary, was appointed in Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s latest reshuffle, replaces Jim McMahon, who resigned from the Shadow Cabinet on Monday.
The Croydon MP also held the role of Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary from 2020 to 2021 and, prior to his election to Parliament, he was leader of Lambeth London Borough Council from 2006 to 2012.
Mr Reed said he was ‘delighted’ to be appointed to the role. “I will work tirelessly to preserve our precious nature, win a fairer deal for farmers, tackle food price inflation and end the scandal of sewage being dumped in our rivers, lakes and seas,” he said.
Shadow Farming Minister Daniel Zeichner remains in his role.
NPA chief policy adviser Charlie Dewhirst: "We welcome Steve Reed to his new role and look forward to meeting him and engaging with him on the big issues that matter for pig producers."
