14th May 2024 / By Alistair Driver

NPA chief executive Lizzie Wilson will highlight the pig industry’s priorities when she attends the second Downing Street Farm to Fork Summit today.

Lizzie Wilson Downing Street 2The summit, which takes place on Tuesday, May 14, will, like the inaugural event last year, showcase the best of British food in the Downing Street garden. This will be followed by breakout sessions across a variety of different themes, including unlocking the farming sector's economic growth potential, and then a wider plenary session.

Lizzie said: "We are really pleased to have been asked for the second time to attend the Downing Street summit. These events are always a great opportunity to engage with key figures across Government and stakeholders.

"I will be raising the big issues affecting pig farmers, including our continued calls for proper, fully-funded biosecurity controls at our borders to protect against notifiable diseases like African swine fever, the need for a fairer supply chain and support in delivering retail commitments in various areas, and a proportionate and collaborative approach to forthcoming legislation that affects the pig sector."

It will be a busy week for the NPA, with the 2024 British Pig & Poultry Fair starting the following day at the new venue of the NEC, in Birmingham.
